About Vitalis Publishing

Vitalis Publishing is an independent literary publishing house, founded in 1993. The sole heir to the once proud tradition of German publishing in Prague, Vitalis Publishing has attained a prominent position in the cultural landscape of central Europe and become a vital part of literary life in the Czech Republic. Since its foundation, it has earned a reputation as a truly European publishing house with a wide selection of foreign language literature (English, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian) complementing the production of German-language books. In Germany, Vitalis Publishers is represented by Vitalis GmbH, based in the Bavarian town of Mitterfels.

Vitalis Publishing sees as its mission the production of timeless books of lasting value, and takes pride in rigorous editing, using top quality paper, and careful manufacturing.

The Publishing House

Im BüroAlmost all our range is illustrated by distinguished artists and helpfully annotated for the reader. The characteristic layout and graphic design of Vitalis titles has won a devoted readership in Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria.
As well as a wide range of titles on all aspects of Prague and Bohemia, we offer fiction, fairy tales, non-fiction, titles on medical history and books relating to Austria. Established in 1993, the Bibliotheca Bohemica now includes more than 50 volumes presenting the contribution of writers of Czech, German, Jewish and Austrian origin to the unique Bohemian literary culture.

In August 2002, Vitalis Publishing was one of the victims of the catastrophic floods, which damaged some of the offices, and completely devastated both the distributing warehouse in the Lesser Town of Prague and the Vitalis bookshop. By September 2002, however, business had been resumed.
